The band's name came from a resemblance, noted by a publican in
Manchester, England, between Noone and Sherman from the
Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Sherman was shortened to Herman and then became Herman and his Hermits, which was soon shortened to
Herman's Hermits.
